How to change the tracking speed for an Apple Magic Mouse

  1. Select the Apple icon  in the top left corner of the screen..
  2. Select System Preferences from the menu.
  3. In the System Preferences window, select the Mouse icon.
  4. On the Mouse screen, make sure the Point & Click tab is selected.|
  5. Adjust the slider for Tracking Speed to make your mouse more comfortable to use.
  6. When you are finished, click the Close (red) button in the top left corner of the System Preferences window.

How to change the scrolling speed for an Apple Magic Mouse

  1. Select the Apple icon  in the top left corner of the screen..
  2. Select System Preferences from the menu.
  3. In the System Preferences window, select the Mouse icon.
  4. On the Accessibility Preferences screen, scroll down in the left column and select Pointer Control.
  5. In the right column, make sure the Mouse & Trackpad tab is selected.
  6. Next, select the Mouse Options button.
  7. In the Mouse Options dialogue box, drag the slider for Scrolling speed to the left to make scrolling slower.
  8. By default, scrolling uses an inertia effect. With this effect enabled the screen carries on scrolling a little further after you stop scrolling the mouse. If you would like to disable this effect so that scrolling stop instantly, select the drop-down menu next to Scrolling and select without inertia.
  9. When you are happy with your settings, select the OK button to return to the Mouse & Trackpad window.
  10. When you are finished, click the Close (red) button in the top left corner of the System Preferences window.

Note: If this does not work it could be because someone else manages your computer settings (an IT department or administrator). If this is the case, you will need to contact them to access these settings or for further help.

Instructions for other mice

  1. Select the Apple icon  in the top left corner of the screen..
  2. Select System Preferences from the menu.
  3. In the System Preferences window, select the Mouse icon.
  4. On the Mouse  screen, adjust the sliders for Tracking speed and Scrolling speed to make your mouse more comfortable to use.
  5. When you are finished, click the Close (red) button in the top left corner of the System Preferences window.
