How to change the colours on the screen in macOS 14 Sonoma

  • Greyscale: monochrome display
  • Red/ Green: for Protanopia colour blindness
  • Green/Red: for Deuteranopia colour blindness
  • Blue/Yellow: for Tritanopia colour blindness
  • Colour Tint: overlay the screen with a single colour filter

Short guide:

  1. Click the Apple icon in the top left corner of the screen and select System Settings.
  2. Click Accessibility in the sidebar.
  3. Select Display from the list of Accessibility options.
  4. In the Colour Filters section, click the drop-down menu for Filter Type and choose the type of filter you would like to apply.
  5. Click the toggle switch for Enable Colour Filters.

This section gives you step by step instructions on how to apply Colour Filters in macOS 14 Sonoma, with pictures of the screens to help.

Open System Settings

1. Click the Apple icon in the top left corner of the screen and choose System Settings from the menu.

Open the Accessibility settings

2. In the System Settings window, click Accessibility in the sidebar.

Find the Display settings

3. Select Display from the list of Accessibilty options on the right.

Find the Colour Filters settings

4. On the Display page, scroll down to the Colour Filters section at the bottom of the page.

Choose Filter Type

5. Click the drop-down menu for Filter Type and choose the filter you would like to apply.

6. Click the toggle switch for Colour Filters to turn it on.

Make adjustments to the filter

7. You can set how heavily the filter is applied by adjusting the Intensity slider at the bottom of the screen.

8. If you are using the Colour Tint filter, you can choose the tint colour and the intensity of the tint.

Close System Settings

9. When you are happy with your settings, close System Settings by clicking the Close button (red circle) in the top-left corner of the window or using the Cmd + W keyboard shortcut.

Note: If this does not work it could be because your computer settings are managed by someone else (an IT department or administrator for example). If so, you will need to contact them to access these settings or for help.
