Terminology:
βAltβ refers to the βOptionβ key (β₯ )
If you have enabled βUse F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keysβ under βKeyboardβ settings in βSystem Preferencesβ then omit the βFnβ key from the keyboard shortcuts shown in this article.
To temporarily resize the mouse pointer (Mac OS X 10.11 (El Capitan) onwards):
Using a mouse: Quickly move your mouse left to right continuously until the mouse pointer is large.
Using a trackpad: Quickly move one finger left and right continuously across the trackpad until the mouse pointer is large.
This feature is enabled by default but to disable or re-enable it:
- Open the βApple Menuβ by clicking on the Apple icon in the top-left corner of the screen, or press βFnβ + βCtrlβ + βF2β to highlight the Apple icon and press βEnterβ.
- Select βSystem Preferenceβ from the Apple menu as shown in Fig 1 or press the down arrow key to highlight it and then press βEnterβ.

- In the βSystem Preferencesβ window, choose βAccessibilityβ or press βTabβ repeatedly (you might need to press βFnβ + βCtrlβ + βF7β first) to cycle through the icons until the βAccessibilityβ icon is highlighted with a blue border as shown in Fig 2 and then press the βSpacebarβ.

- In the left-hand column of the Accessibility screen, select βDisplayβ under the βVisionβ section or press βTab β to highlight one of the options and use the arrow keys to select the βDisplayβ item, see Fig 3, below.
- In the right-hand column, tick or untick the checkbox for βShake mouse pointer to locateβ or press βTabβ until the checkbox is highlighted (you may need to press βFnβ + βCtrlβ + β7β first to jump to the main section) and press the βSpacebarβ to enable or disable the feature. See Fig 3.

- When you are finished click the βCloseβ (red) button at the top of the window or press βCmdβ + βWβ to close the window.
Note: If this does not work it could be because your computer settings are managed by someone else (an IT department or administrator for example). If this is the case you will need to contact them to access these settings or for further help.
