Chrome OS / Chromebook – Inverting screen colours

Created February 2018

You can invert the screen colours in Chrome OS on Chromebook computers using the ‘High contrast mode’.

  1. Open the ‘Accessibility Settings’: Click your account photo > Settings > Advanced (at the bottom) > Manage Accessibility Features. (See the article Open Accessibility Preferences on this website for more information.)
  2. Under the ‘Display’ section click the toggle switch next to ‘Use high contrast mode’ or press the ‘Tab’ key repeatedly until the toggle switch is highlighted and then press ‘Spacebar’. Fig 1.

  3. The screen colours will change immediately. See Fig 2 for an example of ‘High contrast mode’.

  4. When you are happy with your settings click the ‘X’ close button at the top of the window or press ‘Ctrl’ + ‘w’ to close the window.

Note: If this does not work it could be because your computer settings are managed by someone else (an IT department or administrator for example) in which case you will need to contact them to access these settings or for further help.
