How to make text larger on your Apple Mac computer by changing the screen resolution in macOS 26 Tahoe

You can also make text larger using the Text Size options in Accessibility settings. However, this currently only works with a limited number of apps, such as Calendar, Finder, Mail, Messages, and Notes. See our article How to make text larger on your Apple Mac computer using the Text Size options in macOS 26 Tahoe for more information.

Short guide:

  1. Click the Apple icon in the top-left corner of the screen and select System Settings.
  2. Click Displays in the sidebar.
  3. Click the drop-down menu for Resolution and choose Scaled.
  4. If you have an Apple display, select one of the options from Larger Text to More Space.
  5. For other displays, choose from the available screen resolutions. The lower the resolution, the larger the items on the screen will appear.

This section explains how to make the text larger in macOS 26 Tahoe by changing the screen resolution. This is a step-by-step guide with pictures of the screens to help.

Open System Settings

1. Click the Apple icon in the top-left corner of the screen and choose System Settings from the menu.

Open the Display settings

2. In the System Settings window, click Displays in the sidebar.

Change the screen resolution for Apple displays

3. If you have a laptop, or an external display made by Apple, choose one of the Larger Text options shown to the right of the default option.

Change the screen resolution for other displays

4. For other displays, select a resolution from the list. The lower the resolution, the larger the items on the screen will appear. If needed, click the toggle for Show all resolutions to see every available option.

Close System Settings

5. When you are happy with your settings, close System Settings by clicking the close button (red circle) in the top-left corner of the window or using the Cmd + W keyboard shortcut.

Note: If this does not work it could be because your computer settings are managed by someone else (an IT department or administrator for example). If so, you will need to contact them to access these settings or for help.
