This section gives you step by step instructions on how to use the Zoom control to make text larger in Safari in macOS 12 Monterey, with pictures of the screens to help.
1. The quickest and easiest way to use the Zoom control is through keyboard shortcuts. Press Ctrl and + (plus) while Safari is active to zoom in. Press Ctrl and - (minus) to zoom out, or Ctrl and 0 (zero) to return to the default size.
2. Click View in the menu bar, then use the Zoom In and Zoom Out options. Select Actual Size to return to the default size.
3. Apple Mouse or Trackpad users can double-tap to zoom in and out.
Apple Trackpad users can use pinch gestures:
• To Zoom In: Pinch two fingers apart.
• To Zoom Out: Pinch two fingers together.
4. You can set a custom default zoom level, so that every webpage opens with text at a larger size when you launch the browser. Click Safari in the menu bar and select Preferences.
In the Preferences window, select the Websites tab.
In the sidebar, select Page Zoom.
On the right you can change the zoom level for websites that are currently open and websites that you have previously configured.
To set a new default zoom level for all other websites, select the drop-down menu for When visiting other websites and choose from the options.
When you are happy with your settings, close Safari Preferences by clicking the Close button (red circle) in the top-left corner of the window or using the Cmd + W keyboard shortcut.
Note: If this does not work it could be because your computer settings are managed by someone else (an IT department or administrator for example). If so, you will need to contact them to access these settings or for help.
